The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic university rooted in the African continent with an increasingly global reach. UWC actively responds in critical and creative ways to the country's development needs within an ever-changing national and global context. The key responsibilities of the University’s Quality Assurance Unit include the planning, monitoring, reviewing, and maintenance of an institutional quality management system that supports the University’s core functions. This involves ensuring compliance with national standards and regulations set by national regulatory agencies such as the Department of Higher Education and Training, the Council on Higher Education, the South African Qualifications Authority, and other relevant professional organisations.
The University is seeking to appoint a Quality Promotion Manager, reporting to the Director of the Quality Assurance Unit, with a specific focus on Quality Reviews. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the implementation of the Quality Assurance Framework introduced by the Council on Higher Education (CHE). This framework outlines the approach to a variety of quality reviews, including internal quality reviews (such as programme reviews, support service unit reviews, and institutional themed reviews) as well as external quality reviews (such as CHE National Reviews, Professional Board site visits, Institutional Audits, and National Themed Reviews).
The candidate will be expected to have a good understanding of quality management systems and processes in a university context. A basic understanding of qualification design and the key elements involved in the design, accreditation, and registration of qualifications is also required. The role involves active participation in regional and national quality assurance activities and engagements. The candidate is also required to manage feedback processes for institutions when draft national policies and guidelines are published for comment. This position is ideal for someone with a strong focus on supporting quality assurance initiatives and promoting continuous improvement across a university.
