CENTRE FOR MULTILINGUALISM AND DIVERSITIES RESEARCH (CMDR) AND LINGUISTICS DEPARTMENT

The Centre for Multilingualism and Diversities Research (CMDR) and the Linguistics Department at the University of the Western Cape has a vacancy (50-50 split) for a suitably qualified candidate for the post of LECTURER.
The CMDR is an established, research intensive and cross-disciplinary unit located in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Its aim is to offer a significant rethinking of multilingualism that will contribute to the development of new discourses on language with which to approach interdisciplinary work in the humanities, and social and educational sciences. The Centre hosts a journal, Multilingual Margins: A Journal of Multilingualism from the Periphery.
The Linguistics Department has strengths in the areas of multilingualism, sociolinguistics, systemic functional linguistics, formal/theoretical linguistics, forensic linguistics, communication, (critical) media studies, social semiotics and multimodality, literacy and critical discourse analysis.
The CMDR and Linguistics Department seek to appoint an individual in the centre and department with relevant experience in Multilingualism in Society including family language policy/family multilingualism and teach courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in linguistics, applied linguistics and/or sociolinguistics. In addition, the candidate is expected to supervise postgraduate students and engage in community outreach activities related to the abovementioned research niche area.
