The Department of Higher Education and Training (the Department) is implementing a New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) of the “Staffing South African Universities Framework. The nGAP involves the recruitment of new academics who display significant potential for scholarship in teaching and research. The programme entails 6-year development process that includes capacity strengthening and short courses on research and teaching development. As a permanently appointed Academic, employment will commence with a reduced teaching load. The workload will gradually increase to a full load over the 6-year period with a spread of responsibilities across different levels. An appointed coach, mentor and all UWC structures and systems will provide applicable support. Progress will be monitored to ensure successful completion of the nGAP. Successful candidates will have to comply with the normal employment conditions of UWC, as well as the requirements of the Department, as this is a partnership between the Department and UWC. The Department of Psychology, located in the Faculty of Community & Health Sciences, has a well-established reputation as a leading educational provider of general training in Psychology as well as postgraduate professional Psychology programmes in Clinical Psychology and Research Psychology. The Faculty of Community and Health Sciences is seeking to appoint a nGAP Associate Lecturer/Lecturer within the Department of Psychology.
• A Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with a minimum average of 70% • Registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical Psychologist • Communication and presentation skills • Planning and organising skills.
NB: To be considered for appointment at the lecturer level, a minimum of one publication is required
Added advantage • Evidence of peer-reviewed publications • Prior experience in an academic role (e.g. lecturer, tutor, supervisor etc) • Research supervision experience • Interest in psychological assessment • Experience working with communities or civil society partners • Three years post-registration experience The successful candidate will be required to register for a PhD as completing a PhD is a key deliverable to successfully complete the 6-year developmental programme. All applicants are required to submit copies of their Academic Transcripts for their Master’s Degree and proof of registration with the HPCSA.
