The Faculty of Dentistry is a world-class Oral Health Centre committed to the promotion of oral health through excellence of its Teaching & Learning, service rendering and research. The Faculty seeks professionally qualified candidates with excellent records for a post on the joint establishment of the University of the Western Cape and the Provincial Government of the Western Cape, on the conditions of service of the University of the Western Cape.

Responsibilities will include:

• Teaching and training on the combined platform ie. Appropriate training, supervision and general teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students,
• Active participation in research relating to clinical, materials and prosthodontic health themes,
• Conduct, assist and stimulate research,
• Planning and implementing oral and dental education programmes,
• Participation in Faculty and departmental community engagement programmes,
• Administrative duties related to the post,
• Service rendering of patients at both Tygerberg & Mitchell’s Plain sites,
• Control and management of clinical services as delegated by the Head of Department,
• Maintain satisfactory clinical, professional and ethical standards related to these services,
• Maintain necessary discipline over staff under his/her control.

The following would enhance an application: 

• PhD in a relevant field would be preferred in respect of an appointment at Senior Lecturer level, but is not prerequisite,
• Experience in teach and training undergraduate and postgraduate students,
• Ability to work in a team,
• Good interpersonal and communication skills,
• Leadership skills.

Appointment to this position requires the following:

• An MChD (Prosthodontics) for 3-5 years or an equivalent qualification,
• Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist Prosthodontist is a prerequisite,
• Demonstrated experience and academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, supervision, and administration, to contribute to the Faculty’s academic objectives,
• Experience in supervision of Masters students,
• Research and publications record.

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Senior Lecturer:

• Aforementioned minimum requirements plus,
• A PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Endodontics),
• Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning, research, supervision and administration, to contribute to the Department’s academic objectives,
• Research and publications record,
• Any expertise in any of the sub specialities (e.g. Endodontics/ Implantology/ digital workflows) in the field of Prosthodontics.

Lecturer:

• Aforementioned minimum criteria, as well as,
• A keen interest in teaching and learning, research, supervision and administration,
• Experience in research.
